1 – day course ( 7 CPD Hours )

This one day course is designed for those wishing to

improve skills and knowledge in dairy cow nutrition via

on-farm practical assessments of diets and rumen health.

Ideal for vets with an interest in dairy cow nutrition who wish to improve their skills, knowledge and confidence in on-farm practical assessments of nutrition and rumen health.

COURSE FOCUS

Covers practical techniques

• Rumen physiology

• Forage analysis reports

• Relevant cow signals scoring (rumen fill scores, faecal scoring)

• Using a forage particle separator (Penn State separator)

• How to provide a simple rumen health monitoring service to clients

The on-farm afternoon session will put theory into practice by visiting a dairy farm to conduct rumen-health monitoring, including TMR assessment, feeding practices assessment and rumen fluid analysis.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

• Practical forage and TMR analysis

• Rumen fluid sampling and analysis

• How to collect data, interpret and provide feedback on rumen health
